A bit about Life Coach Helen

I never really wanted a website.  In fact I would much rather meet you in person, sit down over a cup of tea, have a chat and we could get to know each other that way.  However, by reading this, you can find out more about me, why I do what I do and the tea can wait until our next meeting!

I’m a down-to-earth, practical life coach, running my own coaching practice, mum of two and wearing many hats besides. I love meeting and spending time with people, listening to what is happening in their lives and helping them get some clarity and headspace.

The most rewarding thing about my job is seeing people’s faces shine when everything starts to come together for them.

Three fun facts about me:

  • I’ve lived and worked in America, Africa and Australia – next time I need to choose a country beginning with a letter other than ‘A’!
  • I lived in a mud hut in Zambia, Africa for two years. When I got married, one of the team I trained and developed wrote to my father telling him that I was worth 52 cows. Guess I’m equivalent to a small dairy herd.
  • I once did a solo static line parachute jump for a premature baby charity and screamed with excitement (and fear) all the way down to the ground.

So how did I end up as a life coach?

Put simply, I find people so interesting.  Everybody has a unique story and experiences and I find it fascinating to listen to them and discover all about them.  My time spent in different countries enabled me to meet people from widely different backgrounds with different challenges but I still realised I could connect with them all and make a difference; often just by giving them the time to listen to what was important in their lives. My background in training and education has made me realise that I love making a difference, helping the people I work with or my classes believe in themselves and fulfil their potential.  Forging relationships with my students was the thing that excited me rather than teaching grammar, particularly the subjunctive! All of my experiences gave me a great foundation for the work I do now.

I juggled my teaching job, my relationship, being a mum and doing my life coaching training and accreditation.  It took me a while to take the plunge and set up a business as the uncertainty and anxiety experienced in making such a change was at times overwhelming. For me, the coaching I received as part of my training was the trump card that helped me get perspective, take control and challenge those fears head on. That is why I love what I’m doing because I know first-hand how powerful coaching can be and the support that I provide is based upon things I have experienced myself.

Something a friend said to me once has stuck with me. ‘Helen, you’ve been listening to me and coaching me for years, you just didn’t realise you were doing it.  It’s about time you did something about it.’ And I did!
